High Dynamic Range Photography - HDR
Powerpoint Program (2 Hours)
HDR can represent anything from an artistic grunge look to to an image that no one will recognize as HDR. Effective use of HDR results in photos that capture the eye. HDR combines multiple images taken at different exposures, so the information from the dark areas is not all black, and the information from the light areas is not all blown out white. We will explore how to photograph an image for HDR use and then using software to merge the images together to get the desired look, while at the same time capturing incredible detail for the viewer.

Lembeh Strait is one of the busiest shipping channels in the world. SCUBA Divers have found it a diving paradise housing some of the most unique creatures found anywhere. We dive along the fairly shallow bottom, which is thickly covered in volcanic ash or better known as muck. Due to the lack of a reef or vegetation, the creatures have developed a hunt or be hunted lifestyle, and relay on to camouflage for their survival.
Lembogen is a mix of old and new. Tourism has quickly replaced sea weed farming as the local livelyhood. Seaweed is grown in family plots just offshore. It is harvested, dried, and sold mainly to China to used in cosmetics, gelatin, and ice-cream. Lembogen is known for their swift currents and cold water. Because of this, the beautiful reefs here are often overlooked. Divers come here to see the big boys! Giant mantas frequently come to the shallow water cleaning stations around the island. The rarely seen Mola Mola are also know to visit. This is a special treat not found elsewhere.
We will explore the land as well as the waters below which are filled with exotic and mysterious creatures.

Fabulous Fiji
29 minute slideshow A trip to fabulous Fiji is filled with the most beautiful, colorful reefs the world has to offer. The waters were made famous by Captain Bligh, on his voyages throughout the Sout Pacific in search of breadfruit. Here you will see the same waters from below where he and his crew of the Bounty tried to avoid the threat of once cannibalistic islanders. You will be welcomed with vibrant soft corals gardens, and welcoming islanders. We will plunge into the clear warm waters to explore the abundance of life below. On the Island of Beqa, watch the amazing barefooted Fijian men walk across stones that had been smoldering in a fire all day, in a traditional fire walking ceremony. We will also visit the island of Makagi, which was a leper colony for over 50 years, starting in 1910. This island brought together lepers from islands throughout the South Pacific. Now these ancestors of the lepers warmly greet us with singing, dancing, and a traditional kava ceremony. |

A Walk In Prayer
25 minute slideshow I stand in humbleness at the beauty God has created, the land, the sea, the sky, all created by Him. I stand in humbleness as I am a small minute piece of His creation. I am just a speck in His universe. Trees struggle to put down roots and to grow where the land is harsh or barren. Rocky soil stands as barriers, keeping the roots close to the surface, going against their natural desire to burry themselves deep within the soil. Plants surviving, regardless of the lack of water, soaking up droplets of moisture from the air, adapting to the conditions it was given. Life thriving in wet aquatic conditions not drowning in their surroundings. The strong survive, adapting to their conditions, dealing with what life has to offer. The weak perish as they are unwilling or unable to adapt. |
The animals relay on the plants, and each other, to survive, their survival depends on it. Some must die so others may live. God sent His son Jesus, who died so I may live. Co-existence is a must for survival. Some will migrate many, many miles away for survival, ensuring their existence remains. They migrate for various reasons, food, water, or reproduction, all enduring with what nature has to offer. The fittest survive, adapting to the conditions. The rest pass on, succumbing to their conditions.
Some hibernate deep into the ground, surviving on store up food reserves with their own bodies. Sleep is their survival in harsh, cold, otherwise unbearable conditions. Even the trees will shed their leaves and endure what the environment offers them, storing their energy underneath their thick bark, so it can burst open with life when the conditions become more bearable, the earth warming up after the winter. Plant seeds will lie dormant waiting to sprout in splendid glory. Some animals will even give birth in their slumber and awaken to a new life in which they created before sleeping away the long winter months.
The oceans surround our continents, lapping at our shore lines. Reefs submerged beneath the waves, protect protect the land and it’s inhabitants from the waves of storms, reminding me of God’s protection. Within that reef of protection is life. Most of us only catch a glimpse of it. I am drawn there, called beneath the waves, to see, and feel , and watch the miracles God has created. The diversity of life, until dependance on each other, and the need for survival is the same as on land. All created by God. All part of His master creation. I am humbled by it’s complexity and beauty. I stand in awe as His universe unfolds in front of my eyes. I am just a speck. I reflect on my place here. I am reminded that my struggles and desires are minute, unimportant in the grand vastness of God’s universe. I connect with my spiritual being here. It cuts into my sole like a river that cuts through a canon. The beauty cannot begin to compare with anything constructed by man. My soul requires this connection. I am renewed, refreshed, and reminded, that I cannot control my environment. Reminded, that I have a great responsibility, to protect and preserve our environment. It is essential to life itself. When we leave this earth, life will still go on just as it did before we came. When a rainforest is cut down, or a forest stream is polluted, life changes forever. Our environment is no longer able to sustain the life it was made for. Life no longer goes on as it was meant to be.
I go to the nature for substance. I desire a oneness with my sole and my maker. It is a desire that no human can fulfill. I seek solitude, and a quietness that only nature can provide. My soul thirsts for it, requires it, for my well being. I walk through the woods, sit by the ocean, or linger in a meadow, watching, observing the natural order of the universe. My soul requires this as much as my body requires food and water. I hunger for the beauty within life itself. I marvel at God’s wonders. I soak in the beauty in that which He has created. I stand in awe at the wonders of His creation. The power is not in man, or within me, but from God. I celebrate the diversity of the land, and animals, and plants. The water which sustains it all is vast and diverse. I long to take part in it, be one with it; experience it like those who survive in it. All is dependent on one another, and my sole is dependent upon all of it. It is my connection to God.

Smoky Mountain Dreams
27 minute show The mist rises from the valleys giving the Smoky Mountains its name with splendid views to behold. Waterfalls are in abundance here. Flowers bloom from early spring to late fall. Herds of deer roam freely and birds can be seen and heard through the mountains and valleys. Cades Cove is alive with and abundance of wildlife. Here is where I often see bears forging for food. Sunsets from Clingman's Doam, the highest point in the National Park, are stunning. The Blue Ridge mountains name becomes obvious when watching the sun set as the day comes to a close. The re-introduction of Elk at the north end of the park are prevalent in the fall months during their rut season. The males juggle and posture for the females. The National Park was once a thriving community living off the land. There are many homesteads that remain, preserved to give us a glimpse of times past. All of this keeps me dreaming of my next return to Smoky Mountain National Park. |
